I have the privilege of delivering my second report as Chair of the Bay of Plenty Education Trust. First and foremost, I would like to thank the Trustees for their ongoing contributions to the Trust over the course of the last year. You should all take pride in the knowledge that the devotion of your time and expertise to this great charity makes a huge difference in the lives of our young recipients.

I would also like to make special thanks to our publicity consultant, Monique Balvert-O’Connor, and to Jennifer Rowlands at Ingham Mora for their valuable contributions to the Trust over the last year. Finally, I wish to thank the team at Ingham Mora for allowing us to use their boardroom and facilities.

Despite the well-documented challenges of COVID-19 continuing to disrupt the World for yet another year, I would like to highlight some of positive milestones the Trust has accomplished this year. These include:

1.       Maintaining our existing education grant initiatives, being our scholarships, support to Instep and Toi EDA and operating our bespoke Future Leaders Program;

2.       Increasing the scope and value of our education grant initiatives through the inclusion of a three-year grant of $24,000 to ICONZ, a local organisation focused on improving life skills for boys;

3.       Improving our protocols for the application of surplus grant money for other worthy causes which meet the purposes of the Trust;

4.       Undertaking ongoing refinements to our investment portfolio and Statement of Investment Policies and Objectives (SIPO);

5.       Welcoming Jonny Beadle onto the Trust;

6.       Completing and launching our new website;

7.       Maintaining our publicity and promotional program through annual press releases, E-newsletters, social media and our website.

Looking forward to the year ahead, I challenge the Trust to strive to achieve a new set of positive milestones as it continues to champion the advancement of education in young people across coastal Bay of Plenty.
